Outa’ Bourbon Blues

I’m so blue,
Dunno what to do.

I’m outa bourbon
And without you.

Suns gonna shine,
Winds gonna blow,
We all know,
I’ll still be low.

Fella next door,
Say he gots enough beer
To bring us some cheer.
But beer dun't work
'round here.

Suds lack real gristle,
And leave me still
down in tha whistle.

Like a boat
that cain't float,
or a sieve
rustin' solid,
I dunno
what to do.

I’m so blue.

I’m outa bourbon
And still
Without you.

Two sung versions are also on Sound Cloud: https://soundcloud.com/lacey-schmidt/sets/outa-bourbon-blues Which one wins?

Sticky Valentine

Your hair
Wild splayed
Across the center console.
We run
Over half
Of Texas
Gone
With hope.
I would sink myself
To save you.
To feel
Forever
Might exist.
Because we forget
That the only thing
Real
Is right now.
Everything else
Is imaginary.
But there is no tomorrow.
Never was.
Grasp what you need
What you want
Is only todays' decoy.
Be who we are.
Potential
And joy.
Hair
Splayed
Over
The center
Console.
Wind
Rushing by.
This
Is how
We
Fly.
Love now.
Abandon
All will
Ye who go
Here,
Where
Right now
Is
Most
Real.
Be brave
Enough
To feel.

A poem dedicated to those heroic enough to coach and mentor others.

First Coach First

Hector, the Specter, PiƱa colada
You are man enough
To let a bunch of little girls
Make a sing-song rhyme
Of your name.

You are man enough
To stand on the third-base line,
Toes pointed in,
Arms out like a kite
Flapping like a bird,
Signing pint-sized kids
To relax and swing away.

You are man enough
To show what good leadership
Really looks like,
A soft-spoken smile well-heard.

You are man enough
To be humble
and coach first base first,
because that is where kids
must learn to run
first.

You are man enough
To care only about teamwork
And sportsmanship.
Trusting that these make winning records,
and letting others take credit
for your leadership.

You are man enough
To shape coal into a softball diamond,
Encouraging more than one All-American
Girl All-star to bloom.

But most of all,
You are man enough
To inspire people.
